Pulp Fiction (1994)

This Quentin Tarantino Film is rated in the top 100 movie list of 2005 for its incredible storyline involving four main characters as their lives come together in a story of love and redemption. Time 100 movies claimed, "Tarantino's multipart murder comedy is (unquestionably) the most influential American movie of the 90s."

The main theatrical elements which stand out in this film are the direction and script writing by Tarantino. As the director, Tarantino recruited the perfect cast for this film. Actors like Samuel L. Jackson and John Travolta played a key role in the success of this film by bringing to the table characteristics which appear strong and serious as mobsters but can also portray a somewhat comical aspect of the film. An example of these characters appearing bold and ruthless while still being comical is when Jackson and Travolta are picking up Mr. wallace's briefcase. The men in the room outnumber both Jackson and Travolta yet they still control the situation while taking their food and threatening them in wallace's defense.

This scene is also a good example of Tarantino's script writing. One of the best characteristics of his films is the commedy he adds to his serious, often violent scenes. The scene previewed above ends in the killing of all of the men in the room. Beyond all of the violence Tarantino shows a comical relief when a studdering man cannot answer jules' question. After studdering many time Jules yells, "what country are you from?!" only to hear the repeated studdering of the man who fears death. Jules replies, "What aint' no counrty i ever heard of! Do they speak english in what!?" This scene is a great example of how the script writing can attract viewers. It not only shows the action intended by this mobster movie but also incorpotates the abilities of the actors and screen writers to keep viewers interested with the comedy in the story.
